Napa Valley College is seeking an individual with demonstrated librarian and instructional skills to join an outstanding team of faculty and instructional administrators to provide high quality programs and services to our district, our community, and most importantly, our students. Candidates who have demonstrated experience working in collegial, collaborative partnerships with faculty, classified staff, administrators, students, and community partners will best fit the position. This position offers the opportunity to participate in visioning, developing, and implementing the philosophy and curriculum of the Library and Learning Resource Center at Napa Valley College.
 
This full-time, tenure-track faculty position works a 175-day faculty work year, in accordance with the district/faculty agreement, beginning Fall 2024. In addition, the selected candidate will work 20 extra days between June 1 and August 21 in order to prepare for the Fall 2024 semester. Specific dates to be worked will be designated by mutual agreement and will be paid at the per diem/daily rate defined in Appendix K, section 8.8 of the collective bargaining agreement for faculty. Appointments are contingent upon Board approval. Initial salary placement is $72,138-$99,152 annually, with future steps to $118,559. Placement on the salary range is commensurate with education and experience. The college offers a fringe benefit package, including medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, employee assistance program, and CalSTRS membership.
 
Successful candidates will be invited to participate in interviews in late March 2024.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Academic Affairs and/or other designated administrator:
 

  • Provide in-person and/or digital reference service to students, faculty, staff, and the community
  • Design and deliver general and subject-specific library orientations and workshops, including digital resources, use of the online catalog, and the Internet
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy components into course content for all courses
  • Develop web-based instructional materials for campus and distance users for credit and non-credit offerings
  • Perform collection development in an automated library setting utilizing an integrated system
  • Work with faculty to ensure that the library has adequate resources to support current and proposed courses or programs
  • Work cooperatively with the supervising administrator and other library staff, to develop and maintain quality programming/instruction
  • Represent the college library in regional and professional organizations
  • Participate in  curriculum committee meetings
  • Verify difficult bibliographic information for interlibrary loans
  • Assist the assigned administrator in program development and evaluation and other departmental tasks
  • Participate in the development and revision of curriculum and assessment of student learning outcomes
  • Participate in professional development activities
  • Maintain current knowledge in the subject-matter area and effective teaching/learning strategies
  • Perform related duties in the Library and Learning Resources Center, as assigned
 
Assignment may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, off-campus classes/activities, and online or other technology-supported instruction.  All contract and regular faculty are required to adhere to contractual obligations. Minimum Qualifications
 
Education:

  1. Earned Master’s degree in library science, library and information science OR

All degrees must be from an accredited institution.
 
 Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience as a librarian
  • Demonstrated experience serving diverse communities through library services
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and race/ethnic background of community college students
 
Title 8, USC, Section 1324-A requires verification of eligibility for employment in the United States.
 
Desirable Professional Competencies
 
  • One year of full-time or two years of part-time library experience at a college or university, preferably at a community college level
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Working in collegial, collaborative partnerships with faculty, classified staff, administrators, students, and community partners 
    • Developing and maintaining a variety of collections in an integrated and automated library setting
    • Developing and revising college-level curriculum
    • Assessing student learning outcomes
    • Providing reference service with a working knowledge of print and digital information resources
    • Addressing information competency issues and standards in a college environment
    • Incorporating and expanding the use of technology in the delivery of library programs and services
    • Transforming learning spaces in a library to reflect the learning cultures of diverse populations
    • Implementing innovations in library services while addressing diverse student needs with a focus on equity
  • Ability to:
    • Work collaboratively with others
    • Promote library services and resources to both the college community and community at large
    • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
