ENGLISH INSTRUCTOR

FULL SALARY RANGE: $60,352 TO $ 110,444

175-DAY CONTRACT/FULL-TIME TENURE TRACK

This is a full-time tenure track faculty position. The teaching assignment could include a mixture of day, evening, weekend, and/or online classes at the Weed or Yreka Campus, or on other off-campus locations.

The College is seeking applications from an individual who has the skills and characteristics necessary to provide exemplary instruction to students. It is a continuing goal of College of the Siskiyous to hire and retain people who reflect the rich diversity of the District and its student body.

• Duties related to English Instruction: Teach a variety of English courses including transfer level and associated co-requisite support courses. Assignments may include evening, off-campus and/or distance education, including online courses and video conferencing.
• Classroom duties: Provide instruction in accordance with established College of the Siskiyous approved curriculum and course outlines; inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance and participation requirements in a course syllabus; effectively teach and communicate with students of diverse backgrounds.
• Interaction with students outside of class: Provide advice to English Majors on academic and career matters; assist in department outreach, recruiting and articulation with high schools, four-year colleges and universities; post and maintain adequate and regular office hours in accordance with the collective bargaining unit.
• Out-of-class duties: Maintain necessary attendance , Institutional and student records, and submit them according to published guidelines; prepare and grade class assignments and evaluations according to syllabus.
• Professional and curriculum development: Remain current in field; develop, maintain and evaluate curriculum including development and assessment of student learning outcomes; select textbooks; evaluate course materials; interact with faculty and staff in other areas of instruction and participate in the development of instructional methods, technology, and materials; work with peers in higher education to maintain currency of instructional programs.
• Interaction with colleagues: Participate in college governance by serving on college committees: participate in professional development, including flex obligations: assist with student and other educational activities in accordance with college policies: establish and maintain effective work relationships.

1. Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition OR

Desired Qualifications:

1. Doctorate or Masters in English earned from a regionally accredited college or university.
2. Excellence in teaching and a strong background in Composition/Rhetoric pedagogies, and training and/or experience in acceleration co-requisite support to meet AB 705 requirements.
3. Certified to teach online and any LMS certification (Canvas preferred).
4. Commitment to community college education as demonstrated in personal and/or professional experience.
5. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, other on-campus groups, off-campus community groups and educational partners.
6. Evidence of a strong commitment to remaining current in the discipline.

Salary:

• The annual salary range for a 175 day contract is: $60,352—$110,444. Starting placement on the District salary schedule is based upon years of experience and number units completed beyond the Master’s degree. New academic employees may receive credit for no more than 5 years of job related experience. Starting salary range is: $60,352– $110,444. 
• Faculty members with an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution receive an additional $2,000 annual stipend.

The College and Community:

College of the Siskiyous, founded in 1957, is in Weed and Yreka in Siskiyou County with an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students.

The main campus is located in the historic lumber town of Weed, California, at the base of 14,162 foot snow-capped Mt. Shasta. A campus center is located in the City of Yreka. The main campus, accessible from Interstate 5 and Highway 97, is 60 miles south of the Oregon border. Both locations feature state-of-the-art facilities, an exceptional setting for learning, and quality instruction in a caring atmosphere. The communities of Siskiyou County feature festivals, carnivals, concerts, art galleries and live theater.

College of the Siskiyous has excellent faculty and staff, as well as a diverse and engaged student population. The College has a positive image in both community and region and is fully accredited through the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Commission of Recognition of Post-Secondary Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education.

Selection Process:

After the preliminary screening, selected candidates will be invited to the campus for an initial interview with the Search Committee. Videoconference interviews (in lieu of an in-person initial interview) will be offered.  Candidates to be interviewed will be selected from applicants who most closely meet the minimum and desired qualifications.  Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview.  The Search Committee will recommend finalists to the Superintendent/President for a final interview.

The District reserves the right to re-advertise the position or to delay indefinitely filling of the position if it is deemed that applicants for the position do not constitute an adequate applicant pool or if funding is not available.

Conditions of Employment:

Employees must satisfy all the pre-employment requirements prior to appointment that include, but are not limited to, tuberculosis clearance (EC 87408.6), fingerprint processing, and verification of their legal right to work in the United States.  A pre-employment physical examination is required for this position.
