DESCRIPTION

The position is a full-time teaching assignment in the Career Technical Education division Automotive Program (AUTO).

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • In addition to teaching 15 lecture hour equivalents per semester, full-time faculty are responsible for five office hour per week and preparation time, and are expected to participate in faculty/division meetings and yearly program review.
  • Full-time faculty also participate in curricular planning, student learning outcomes: data collection and writing action plans, program learning outcomes, development, assessment, and implementation; evaluation of educational programs; and college governance contributory to the attainment of the college's mission and strategic goals.
  • Instructors may be assigned a combination of daytime, evening, online and/or Saturday classes, as the college is dedicated to the educational success of a diverse student body with diverse needs.
  • Continued professional development through the Faculty Professional Development Program or other sources required as per the contract.
  • Travel between District locations is also expected.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

(Applicant must meet one of the following)

  • Most current Minimum Qualifications for Faculty in California Community Colleges: Any Bachelor's degree or higher AND two years of experience OR any Associate degree AND six years of experience OR equivalency:


  • Antelope Valley College Equivalency:  College work, military training, or nationally recognized certifications equivalent to a Baccalaureate degree AND two years of related occupational experience in the discipline; or, college work, military training, or nationally recognized certifications equivalent to an Associate degree plus six years of occupational experience related to the discipline, OR 

     

    Eight years of experience in the automotive service occupation, two years of which must have included assignment as a supervisor, instructor, trainer or owner of an automotive service shop.


AND sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
of community college students.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Extensive automotive experience. 
  • Experience developing NATEF /ASE P1, P2, and P3 student lab documents. 
  • Experience developing and implementing curriculum, lecture material, lab activities, and testing that aligns with NATEF /ASE certification or equivalent. Testing must include evaluation of both understanding and hands-on ability. 
  • Experience recruiting potential students, performing outreach, developing industry partnerships, serving on campus wide committees, and additional activities to benefit the automotive program outside of the classroom. 
  • Experience using Canvas to lay out course content. 
  • Demonstrated experience in course planning documentation, daily lesson plans, and related support materials specific to the content areas that support student success. 
  • Knowledge or experience with career tech education content development and presentation styles. 
  • Certification in ASE A1-A8 areas and maintenance and light repair (G1). 
  • Certification in ASE advanced engine performance (L1) preferred. Certified Bureau of Automotive Repair Smog instructor EO and EI license preferred. 
  • Experience collaborating with full-time and adjunct faculty to develop, update and review curriculum currency in order to respond to the needs of historically underrepresented students. 
  • Currency and depth of knowledge in assigned area of responsibility and subject matter. 
  • Strong organizational skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with colleagues and members of the campus community.  
  • Ability to teach in an online environment.
