The Santa Clarita Community College District/College of the Canyons is seeking a full-time Grant Writer in the Grants Development Office.

"BIG PICTURE" RESPONSIBILITY:

Under the direction of College of the Canyons’ Director of Grants Development, the Grant Writer is responsible for assisting with the identification of external funding sources and writing competitive grant proposals. As part of the Grants Development Office, the Grant Writer will seek out and obtain external funding to support district projects, coordinate the development of proposals in conjunction with appropriate staff, and develop grant narratives, budgets, and packaging for submittal according to all grant criteria and deadlines. The Grant Writer works with the campus community, as well as external partners, and helps identify connections between grant opportunities and priorities of departments and programs in connection with the District’s strategic plan priorities. Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 

  1. Writes grant proposals and completes application forms, in accordance with Requests for Applications.
  2. Creates budgets for grant proposals.
  3. Conducts research to identify external funding sources including government agencies, corporations, and foundations.
  4. Works with the college community to secure funding for programs and District priorities.
  5. Disseminates information on funding opportunities on a regular basis and provides grant status updates
  6. Assists in building coalitions and cooperative relationships with other colleges, community organizations, and private sector companies.
  7. Assists with preparing and conducting presentations and increasing campus awareness about funding opportunities.
  8. Conducts research to help identify and prioritize the District’s grant needs.
  9. Maintains the department website and relevant electronic and hardcopy records including the grant tracking database.
  10. Collaborates with project directors to assist in program planning as related to grants development.
  11. Provides quality service and assistance to project managers and potential grant applicants.
  12. Coordinates meetings and events, such as Meet the Grant Makers.
  13. Provides grant writing support for Foundation-related projects where appropriate.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience

Three years of successful professional/technical writing experience.  Knowledge of grant application procedures for a variety of government and private funding sources is desirable. 

Education 

Completion of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

  10. Work productively and harmoniously with a wide variety of people and organizations.
  11. Demonstrate currency of knowledge with computers and other forms of advanced technology utilized in providing high quality services.
  12. Demonstrate clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and the community.

SALARY PLACEMENT

This twelve (12) month per year position will be on an individual contract. This classified administrator position will be placed on Range 10 of the Administrator Salary Schedule. Step placement is based on experience. Initial salary step placement for new employees is customarily at step 1, 2, or 3 ($7,803.00 / $7,921.00 / $8,039 per month) of this 20-step salary range. All administrators are on an employment contract and exempt from overtime and compensatory time accumulation.

DISTRICT CLASSIFIED ADMINISTRATIVE EMPLOYEE BENEFITS 

Full-time employees are provided with a diversified employee benefits program that includes sick time, vacation time, discretionary time, medical, dental and vision insurance including dependent coverage, disability and life insurance as well as Section 125 options.  These benefits commence on the first of the month following date of hire.  Professional development and educational incentive opportunities are provided to all classified administrative employees.  Classified employees contribute to the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS), a defined benefit retirement plan through the State of California. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Position requires sitting and viewing a computer monitor for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a typewriter and computer keyboard; reaching, bending and stooping; frequently exert 10 to 20 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects; hearing and speaking to communicate and provide information to others; vision to read printed materials and computer monitor. 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Successful completion of background fingerprint clearance, pre-employment physical examination (disabilities not related to the physical job will not affect the application process) and TB screening. 
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States and signing of loyalty oath per government codes 3100-3109.
  • Meeting applicable eligibility requirements under CalPERS or CalSTRS if you are a current or former member.
